Some Interesting Myths About Wine Storage

Wine is easily one of the most loved drinks in the world. It's something you will find on the table every time something calls for a celebration. A glass of wine is what we covet after a long day. Many believe that a glass of wine is a valuable part of a healthy diet. But there are some myths about wine made popular by us humans.

Here are some of the incorrect philosophies about wine and wine strorage:

1. Opening the Bottle before Serving improve its taste

This is not true as studies show that uncorking a bottle does not allow it to open. This is due to the fact that the neck of a bottle is not wide enough to permit sufficient air in the bottle. It would be more beneficial to decant your wine as this process is a good way to remove any sediment that may have formed at the bottom of your older wines. A longer decanting process for young reds would be beneficial. You can even uncork a wine without a corkscrew.

2. All German Wines are Sweet

Whilst Germany is well known for producing sweet wines, it is not a fact that ALL German wines are sweet. The Germans also make dry wine too.

3. Proper storage is Costly

You can very effectively store wine almost anywhere. A wine fridge enables you to store in a temperature-controlled custom made environment within the fridges. Just ensure the wine is not in direct sunlight, or overly heated room. This will ensure that your bottle remains cool.

4. Red Wines Cause More Headaches than White Wines

Most people believe this to be true due to Red's higher sulfite content, however, it is a myth. Actually, sulfites are produced by our bodies every day. These sulfites can also be found in many common daily foods as preservatives. However, sulfites can induce an allergic reaction, particularly to people with asthma or breathing issues.

5. You Need Different Glasses for each kind of Wine

The best 'all round' wine glass is a tulip shaped glass or a glass that tappers towards the top. This type of glass will concentrate the aroma towards your nose, which creates ideal drinking conditions.

6. Red Wines should not be Chilled

Red wines are said to taste best at a temperature between 55º and 65º. Generally, bolder reds can be served warmer & lighter reds can be served chilled.
